Absentee Ballot & Early Voting Information

here are some changes and options for the way Michigan voters may cast their ballots:

Absentee Ballot and Permanent Absentee Ballot List

In 2022, Michigan Voters approved the proposal that allows voters to receive an Absentee Ballot by completing an application once and receiving an absentee ballot for all elections moving forward. Make sure to review your options when receiving an application for absentee ballot. If you feel that the Permanent Absentee Ballot option is right for you, complete the application by checking the box to join the Permanent Absentee Ballot List. Make sure to sign and date the form where appropriate. This is not mandatory and may not be appropriate for each voters’ situation. You may request in writing to be removed from the Permanent Absentee Ballot List at any time.  This written request must include your signature. If you are going to be temporarily away for an upcoming election, it is your responsibility to notify the Clerk’s Office to send the absentee ballot to a different address. Ballots are not able to be forwarded through the United States Postal mail. If you move within the State of Michigan and update your voter registration address, your status on the Permanent Absentee Ballot List will remain with you at your new Michigan residential location. Please note that Power of Attorney does not apply to voting.  Only the voter themselves may sign an application requesting a ballot.  In addition, only the voter may sign the ballot envelope.

Early Voting: New for 2024

Voters have the right to vote and place their completed ballot into the secure tabulator during the nine days of early voting beginning the second Saturday before each State and/or Federal Election. The Charter Township of Caledonia Office is the site for Early Voting for all its registered voters at 8196 Broadmoor Avenue SE, Caledonia, MI 49316. Voting will take place in the Township Hall Board Room from 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. during these nine days. A person must be registered to vote prior to voting at the Early Voting Site. On Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 8:00 p.m., the location for the close of early, in-person voting: 8196 Broadmoor Avenue SE, Caledonia, MI 49316. Please contact the Clerk’s department at (616) 891-0070 with registration questions. 

In Person voting:

In-person voting on Election Day at your assigned precinct location continues to be an option.

Absentee Ballot Counting Board:

The Charter Township of Caledonia will operate an Absentee Ballot Counting Board at 8196 Broadmoor Avenue SE, Caledonia, MI 49316 on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Tuesday, February 27, 2024 beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the close of the election for the February 27, 2024 Presidential Primary.  There are six election inspectors assigned to this Absentee Ballot Counting Board.   

Dates of interest for the Presidential Candidate Primary Election:

Applications for Absentee Voter Ballots will be mailed out to those that have requested them.

Ballot Selection Letters will be mailed to those registered voters who have requested to be on the permanent ballot list.

Absentee Voter Ballots will be mailed to voters that have returned their completed applications; Absentee Voter Ballots will also be available during regular office hours for voters who apply for ballots.

Saturday, February 17, 2024 – Sunday, February 25, 2024

Early Voting Site opens at 8196 Broadmoor Avenue SE.  Hours of operation: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Friday, February 23, 2024 (5:00 p.m.)

Deadline to have a ballot mailed to a registered voter.  

Monday, February 26, 2024

Registered voters may apply for an Absentee Voter Ballot in person at the Clerk’s Office with the requirement that it must be voted in the building. This option ends at 4:00 p.m. 

Tuesday, February 27, 2024:

In-person voting at assigned precincts on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
